- 1) What is WireHider®?
Wire Hider® provides a solution to a universal problem. It is an easy to use wire management product for organizing wires and cables associated with home electronics. It is perfect for cleaning up wire mess associated with computer stations, home entertainment centers, offices, and security systems. Wires or cables can enter and exit anywhere along the length of the WireHider®. Ideal child & pet safety product keeps wires and cables out of the reach of small children and pets. - 2) Where would WireHider® be used?
WireHider® is ideal for home use in organizing wires from computers, home entertainment systems, fax, telephone, security, and electrical appliances. WireHider® is used most often in existing homes and offices where it is more cost effective to route cables on the surface rather bore through cinder block or other labor-intensive retrofit construction methods. It can be used in new construction to provide easy access for future upgrades.
WireHider® can also be used in a wide array of applications within an office. You can use it in hallways, testing labs, computer labs, classrooms, printing stations, media centers, customer service areas, call centers, etc. - 3) What are the advantages of using WireHider®?
Its unique feature is in the way it captures wires and cables. The WireHider® has a pair of flexible flap, which rest in the closed position. Wires and cables are easily pressed passed the flaps and are captured neatly inside the channel. Wires and cables can be removed by pulling them back out through the flexible flaps. Another useful advantage of the flexible flap raceway is that wires can enter and exit the raceway at any point without having to cut the raceway allowing for relocation of wires without having to replace the raceway. This makes it ideal for computer stations and stereo systems, which may periodically require relocation of components. - 4) How do I attach WireHider® to surfaces?
WireHider® comes with a high tech double-sided tape attached to the back. One side of the tape has an adhesive that is designed to bond strongly to the plastic. The other side of the tape has an adhesive that will bond to most clean surfaces and will increase in strength with time. The WireHider® may also be screwed to the wall for extra holding security if desired. - 5) Can WireHider be used for overhead wiring?
Yes. The flexible flaps act as a third hand, holding the wires as they are being inserted into the WireHider. This is especially helpful for overhead wiring where gravity becomes a problem with conventional hinged lid raceway systems. - 6) Do I need to prepare the surface before I attach the WireHider®?
The surface of the wall must be clean and free of dirt and grease. It is good practice to clean the surface with an appropriate cleaner or solvent that does not leave a residue. - 7) What is the recommended method to remove the adhesive-backing and remove the adhesive residue?
To remove adhesive from painted drywall or wallpaper, please use the following directions.
A. Use a heat gun, if adhesive can be softened it may peel off the wall. (The initial start may require some scraping to force the tape off the wall.) Work from one end to the other directing heat at the adhesive/wall bond.
B. Cut the foam in half using a fishing line for little or no chance at scarring the wall. (Or a razor blade can be used.) Then scrub what remains with isopropyl alcohol (or toluene if isopropyl alcohol does not remove film). Be sure to test small area to see what these solvents will do to the paint or paper.
CAUTION: WHEN USING ANY SOLVENT, CONSULT THE MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS, MSDS SHEETS, ETC., FOR PROPER USE AND HANDLING!!!!!!!!! - 8) How do I cut the WireHider®?
WireHider® can be cut with a fine tooth saw, hacksaw, or sharp pruning shear. Power saws may be used, but a fine blade or blade specified for plastic is recommended. - 9) What about fire rating?
All of our WireHider® systems are made of 94v0 fire retardant UL approved plastic.
